| We have a date set for our next golfing extravaganza - put it in your diary now! And while we wait for the weeks to drift by, here's a reminder of last year's Golf Day... Golf Day 2011 On the hottest day for five years we gathered for coffee and bacon baps before heading out on to the greens of Guildford Golf Club. There was plenty to keep our golfers entertained. Apart from 18 holes of golf with several competitions thrown in (notably the Clothes & Pose at the first tee) there was Pimms & Putting, a splendid meal and live entertainment from a Human Jukebox (thank you to the ACM for the supply of talented students). With teams drawn from the local business community it was an opportunity to network, and everyone seemed to have a really good time. Guildford Golf Club's picturesque course presented its own challenges, particularly in the heat. To help the tired golfers relax and recover, magician John Richard provided great entertainment - leaving everyone wondering "just how did he do that!!" He warmed the audience up beautifully for the auction, which was expertly conducted by Kerry Sullivan. The evening culminated in the prize giving, with the rhw trophy at stake...and several fine bottles of wine! Pictured above are the overall winners of the day - the BEST Team, drawn from the networking group that meets for breakfast every Tuesday morning at the Y. Seen presenting the rhw trophy to them is Richard Brown of rhw Solicitors (centre). Congratulations! The main aim of the day was of course to raise funds for Guildford YMCA's work with local disadvantaged young people. Overall the event raised over £2,500 for our work with young people who don't enjoy the stable upbringing and educational advantages many of us have known. Thank you to everyone who came, bought raffle tickets and made generous auction bids. Do check out our photographs from the day - some interesting poses! |
